چکیده

North Bangkok. ** Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Ramkhamhaeng University. Abstract A new ecdysteroid, P5, has been isolated from the stem bark of aged trees (with flower) of vitex canescens. 20-Hydroxyecdysone, makisterone A, 24-epi-makisterone A, and canescensterone have also been isolated from both young trees (without flower) and aged trees (with flower) of vitex canescens. The methods of extraction of the ecdysteroids from vitex canescens are given and the melting points, infrared absorption spectra, nuclear magnetic resonance spectra and mass spectra of the ecdysteroids are reported.

Practical uses for ecdysteroids in mammals including humans: an update

Ecdysteroids are widely used as inducers for gene-switch systems based on insect ecdysteroid receptors and genes of interest placed under the control of ecdysteroid-response elements. We review here these systems, which are currently mainly used in vitro with cultured cells in order to analyse the role of a wide array of genes, but which are expected to represent the basis for future gene thera...

Effect of two insect growth regulators on the ecdysteroid contents in eggs of the mealworm

RH-0345 (halofenozide), a bisacylhydrazine derivative, is a nonsteroidal ecdysteroid agonist that mimics the action of the moulting hormones, while KK-42, an imidazole compound, is a potent inhibitor of ecdysteroid biosynthesis. Previous results suggested that the observed reduction of ecdysteroid titre, leading to a reduction of reproductive capacity in the mealworm Tenebrio molitor, is due to...

Inverse Relationships between Ecdysteroid Titres and Total Body Metabolism in Insects

In larval and pupal stages o f several insect species the changes in total body metabolism appear to be inversely proportional to the course o f ecdysteroid titres. The largest peaks of ecdysteroid occur exactly at the time o f the lowest m etabolic rates. These relationships are consequences of the developmental programming; ecdysteroid has no direct antimetabolic action. The problem of ecdyst...

A Steroid-Binding Protein from Insect Haemolymph Isolated by PhotoafTinity Labelling and Immunoadsorption

Immunoadsorption, Ecdysteroids, Calliphorin, Steroid-Binding Protein, Photoaffinity-Labelling Endogenous ecdysteroids as well as radiolabelled exogenous ecdysone were crosslinked to a protein when haemolymph from blowfly larvae was irradiated with UV-light under optimized conditions. This indicates that larval haemolymph of blowflies contains an ecdysteroid-binding protein. The crosslinked ecdy...

RNA interference-mediated knockdown of the Halloween gene Spookiest (CYP307B1) impedes adult eclosion in the western tarnished plant bug, Lygus hesperus.

Ecdysteroids play a critical role in coordinating insect growth, development and reproduction. A suite of cytochrome P450 monooxygenases coded by what are collectively termed Halloween genes mediate ecdysteroid biosynthesis. In this study, we describe cloning and RNA interference (RNAi)-mediated knockdown of the CYP307B1 Halloween gene (Spookiest) in the western tarnished plant bug, Lygus hespe...
